HATs are not backward compatible with original Raspberry Pi 1 models A and B. A HAT is an add-on board that conforms to the HAT specifications. These boards support HATs (Hardware Attached on Top). The diagrams are based on the information available from the hardware section of the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s Official site. The Raspberry Pi boards with 40W GPIO headers (Model B+ and onwards) and have been designed specifically with add-on boards in mind.
